Straight answers

Does this replace health insurance? +
No — and we'll be upfront about that. This is a supplemental plan that pays you cash when you're hospitalized. It is not major medical insurance, doesn't pay providers directly, and doesn't satisfy ACA minimum essential coverage requirements. What it does: puts cash in your hands fast when an unexpected hospital event would otherwise wreck your finances.
Who is this actually a good fit for? +
Anyone with a high-deductible health plan who's one hospital visit away from blowing their entire deductible. Self-employed people, gig workers, and 1099 contractors with bare-bones or no coverage. People who recently aged off a parent's plan. And anyone who's thought "what would happen financially if I ended up in the hospital for a week?" — this is the answer to that question.
Are pre-existing conditions covered? +
There's a 6-month waiting period for pre-existing conditions — defined as conditions for which you received treatment or medical advice in the 6 months before your effective date. After 6 months, those conditions are covered like anything else. Some serious conditions identified in the health questionnaire will result in a declined application.
How does the cash actually get paid to me? +
You file a claim after your hospital discharge. Heartland National processes it and sends payment directly to you — not to the hospital. No network requirement, no pre-authorization needed. Use the cash for your deductible, your mortgage, groceries — whatever you need.
I already have health insurance. Does this still make sense? +
Often yes, especially if your deductible is $2,000 or higher. A 5-day hospital stay could cost you that entire deductible before your insurance pays a dollar. This plan pays you cash on top of whatever your primary insurance covers — it doesn't reduce your other benefits or conflict with existing coverage.
What states is this available in? +
